GRAND FALLS-WINDSOR, NL--(Marketwired - June 08, 2017) - Families and friends will gather with MADD Canada's Newfoundland and Labrador Chapters and Community Leaders this Saturday to pay tribute to those killed or injured in impaired driving crashes.
A Candlelight Service of Hope and Remembrance will be held at Memorial United Church at 2 p.m. Following the service, guests will congregate at nearby Centennial Park for a commemorative ceremony at the Provincial Monument, which has been engraved with the names of 12 more people who have been killed or injured in impaired driving crashes.
"When someone makes the decision to drive impaired, individuals, families and communities can be devastated," said MADD Canada National President Patricia Hynes-Coates. "Our candlelight remembrance ceremony and memorial monument honour the innocent victims of impaired driving and raise awareness among the public about the very real, tragic and permanent consequences of impaired driving."
Joining MADD Canada's Chapters and Community Leaders and victims and survivors of impaired driving for these special ceremonies will be Newfoundland and Labrador Minister of Transportation Allan Hawkins, Members of the House of Assembly from around Newfoundland and Labrador, representatives from police, fire and emergency services, and other special guests.
Media are invited to attend the Newfoundland and Labrador Candlelight Service and Monument Dedication.
