-- Full Integration of GFx 3.1 with the LightSpeed ToolBench
A Flash SWF movie (GFxMovie) can now be used as a "standard model" inside
LightSpeed. Instead of creating objects in C++, these objects now use a
drag-and-drop functionality in LightSpeed's ToolBench to drop the model
into the world.
-- Rapid Iteration Workflow
LightSpeed's Asset Reload Manager is used to deliver rapid iteration of SWF
and GFX assets, making it easier than ever to make changes without
recompilation. Now Flash movies can be created and destroyed by simply
adding or deleting GFxMovie entities, and movie properties can be instantly
modified from the editor or script system, all of which streamlines the
entire process and makes it easier than ever to quickly see in-game
updates.
-- Optimized Script Communication
Using Scaleform's new Complex Object API available in GFx 3.1, LightSpeed
users can directly access Flash objects, properties, and functions from Lua
or C++, making it much easier to create high performance UI elements such
as HUDs, MMO UIs, and in-game menus.
-- Scaleform Video Integration
Without a single line of code, LightSpeed developers can add both
fullscreen and partially transparent video to their project. The new
Scaleform Video support allows artists to leverage Flash video objects to
go directly from AVI to Flash to LightSpeed for all types of solutions such
as intro logos, cut scenes, UI effects, in-game videos, and much more.
-- Improved Input Handling
The new GFx Input Router model takes care of the complicated details of
keyboard, mouse and gamepad input on PC and Consoles. Users simply create a
model that uses the GFx Input Router to feed input directly to Flash (GFx
Movie) interface elements.
-- New and Improved Samples
The new integration includes a suite of samples illustrating how to make
progressively complex UI's, each one showing different features of the
integration. The samples build up a simple game interface with a Main Menu,
Options Screen, Localization Screen, in-game HUD, Pause Menu and a chat
window with IME support. Further documentation, demos and even video
tutorials are also available.
