-- 30 Aspire One 10.1" Netbooks
-- 30 LV460 Desktops
-- 30 V-Series 17" LCD Monitors
Three Runner-Up Winners will receive 30 Aspire One
10.1" Netbooks to outfit their classrooms. Runner-Up
Winners include:
-- Charleston Community Unit School District 1 in
Charleston, Ill.
-- Monroe Road Elementary School from Bedford Public
Schools in Lambertville, Mich.
-- Sikeston R6 in Sikeston, Mo.
These winners were selected as part of a random
drawing of educators and school administrators who
participated in a free 30-day trial of the Acer Aspire
One Netbook. From May to August, more than 5,500
educators participated in the contest. As participants
spent their 30 days with an Aspire One, they were able
to test the functionality and durability of the
Netbook while exploring ways in which to incorporate
new technology into their classrooms.
The 1,000 students of Grand Prize Winner, Valley Grove
School District, are anxious to receive their new
computers. With the addition of 90 computer products
to the district's assets, students will now have the
ability to spend additional time in the computer labs.
"The Valley Grove School District was pleasantly
surprised to hear that we were recipients of the grand
prize in the Acer Education Initiative," said Jeffrey
A. Clark, superintendent of Valley Grove School
District. "This award will provide our district the
opportunity to expand our technology resources and
take the educational possibilities to a higher level.
In addition, the receipt of the Acer computers will
serve as a tremendous asset to our teaching staff as
they continue to enrich the educational opportunities
that are provided to the students at Valley Grove. We
are appreciative of the opportunity that Acer has
given to school districts to participate in such a
worthwhile program."
The Valley Grove School District has big plans in mind
for the use and implementation of its new technology.
"The computers that we won are going to create two
completely new computer labs -- one at the high school
and one at the elementary school. This will go a long
way to resolve the scarcity of available computer time
for teachers and students," said Connie Cunningham of
Valley Grove School District ITS.
Value of classroom technology
Giving every student access to the latest mobile
technology is a valuable and challenging goal.
Research shows technology in the classroom improves
everything from testing scores to attendance. In fact,
according to research from Henry County,
Va., student scores improved by 20 percent on state
tests during the first year that new laptop technology
was introduced.
Schools throughout the nation are leveraging resources
and sharing tips to make one-to-one computing goals a
reality. With the Acer Education Technology
Initiative, schools have the chance to be one step
closer to reaching these goals.
Navigating education technology stimulus funds
As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
of 2009 (ARRA), there is an unprecedented $115 billion
set aside for education. Making the right decisions on
how to create sustainable, long-term results for
education technology will vary for different districts
and schools, but there's no doubt technology will play
an increasingly important role in the classroom.
To help understand ARRA and how education technology
fits into the stimulus package, Acer has developed a
resource guide. The complete
resource guide is available for download as a PDF.
