Welcome to a press event: Urban populations grow. Climate is changing. How will cities be affected? What kind of weather services will be needed?

(Please register if you plan to attend. Instructions below.)

You are warmly welcome to a press event addressing these issues on Monday, September 29th at 14.00 - organized in conjunction with the European Meteorological Society's Annual Meeting in Amsterdam.

Global population projections indicate that cities will continue to grow rapidly at the expense of rural areas. At the same time, there is compelling evidence that Earth's climate is changing.

Urban population growth and climate and weather changes - and the implications for public safety must be met by implementing advanced regional weather observing systems that facilitate markedly improved warnings, forecasts and predictions of weather-related hazards of all types - severe weather, flooding, heat stress, poor air quality, wildfires and disease.

You're invited to join a press conference hosted by Walter F. Dabberdt, Ph.D. Meteorology, President of the American Meteorological Society and Chief Science Officer of the Vaisala Group, a global leader in environmental measurement solutions.

A limited number of seats are available - please contact marikka.nevamaki@vaisala.com (+358 40 700 4340) to register for the press conference, and to receive further information about the venue at the Amsterdam RAI.
