Energy Systems Group and Veolia Environmental Services Announce Landfill Gas-to-Electricity Project

EVANSVILLE, IN--(Marketwire - July 24, 2008) - Veolia Environmental Services and Energy Systems Group (ESG) have reached an agreement to develop a landfill gas-to-electricity project in southwestern Indiana. The 3.2 Megawatt project is a partnership between Veolia ES Blackfoot Landfill in Winslow, Indiana, and ESG Biofuels (Blackfoot), LLC to capture landfill gas and use it as a fuel source to generate electricity.

Energy Systems Group will design, build, own and operate a power generation facility on site at the Veolia ES Blackfoot Landfill. Instead of simply allowing gas from the landfill to be burned-off and wasted, Veolia will extract the gas from the landfill and send it via pipeline to a new power generation facility. There, the gas will be treated and used as fuel to power the generator for electricity production. ESG will then sell the electricity to the power grid. The first phase of the project will be for 1.6 Megawatts of power. Both Veolia and ESG anticipate adding the additional generation capacity within the next few years.

By capturing these landfill gases, Energy Systems Group is helping to provide environmental benefits equivalent to the following:

--  Removal of emissions equivalent to over 22,000 cars per year, or
--  Planting about 27,000 acres of forest annually, or
--  Creating enough energy to power more than 2,000 homes per year

This landfill gas-to-energy project is the tenth such project undertaken by Veolia in North America.
