-- Removal of emissions equivalent to over 22,000 cars per year, or
-- Planting about 27,000 acres of forest annually, or
-- Creating enough energy to power more than 2,000 homes per year
"The Blackfoot project will be ESG's third landfill gas to energy project,"
said Jim Adams, president of ESG. "We are especially proud of this project
since it will bring locally generated renewable electricity to southwestern
Indiana, the place ESG calls home."
"This project offers ESG an excellent opportunity to utilize a renewable
energy resource in a beneficial application. We expect to generate
electricity from the site for the next 20 to 25 years," said Dennis
Bollinger, ESG Director of Clean Fuel Projects.
This landfill gas-to-energy project is the tenth such project undertaken by
Veolia in North America.
"We are proud to play a role in decreasing greenhouse gas emissions into
the environment," said Richard Burke, president and CEO of Veolia ES Solid
Waste, Inc. "This project is just one example of our commitment to finding
innovative ways to turn waste into a resource."
The project is expected to be in commercial operation in 2009 and will
provide the local community with several economic benefits, including
increased employment through construction activities and the revenue
generated from the sale of the gas produced.
