SPRINGDALE, Ark., Dec. 4, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Working with retail grocers to effectively price and market high quality foods is the primary goal of the category management efforts of Tyson Foods, Inc. (NYSE:TSN). These efforts are now being honored by one of North America's leading grocery publications.
Progressive Grocer magazine has selected Tyson for a 2007 Category Captain Award. The honor recognizes leading consumer goods manufacturers for their ability to provide innovative category management leadership, insights and results to the retail food industry.
Tyson is a winner in the Fixed and Variable Meats Category. The award was based on the trade promotion results Tyson achieved using a DemandTec (Nasdaq:DMAN) software application, which helps the company analyze consumer demand, as well as potential pricing and promotion plans. The application is being used to help market a variety of refrigerated and frozen cooked meat products sold under the Tyson brand. It has already contributed to the sale of more products, an improved return on invested marketing dollars and more profitability for the retail customer.
"We're constantly looking for ways to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of our trade promotion investment, while delivering more value to our retail customers," said Scott McNair, group vice president of Consumer Products for Tyson. "Through our use of this software application, we've taken a much more consumer-centric approach to promotions, creating a win for Tyson, our retail customers, and ultimately the consumer."
Every year, Progressive Grocer recognizes manufacturers at the forefront of category management that have achieved extraordinary results for both themselves and their retail partners. The factors figured into the judging included consumer insights, innovative, dynamic category management tools, and effectiveness in lifting line, brand and category sales.
"Two years ago Tyson Foods was confronting a series of challenges that it ultimately transformed into opportunities for the frozen meat category," according to the latest edition of Progressive Grocer. "Using the DemandTec solution, Tyson was able to show the impact of trade promo plans on key metrics, including the effect on retailer volume and profitability."
"DemandTec is delighted that Tyson is achieving such strong results from the use of our solutions," said Dan Fishback, CEO of DemandTec. "Tyson is part of a growing network of retailers and manufacturers dramatically increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of their trade marketing investments. We look forward to working with Tyson and its trading partners to drive continued excellent results."
Tyson recently renewed its license with DemandTec. Inc. for promotional planning solutions.
