Marygrove College Announces Hall of Famer Glen Donahue as New Head Men's Basketball Coach

DETROIT, Oct. 8, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Marygrove College has announced that Glen Donahue was named the new head men's basketball coach, effective October 1, 2007, taking over for Dave Sichterman who will stay with the staff as an assistant coach as well as maintain his duties as Director of Athletics, Wellness and Recreation.

Donahue, 72, brings a wealth of basketball knowledge to the Mustangs program, which recently announced its move to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). No stranger to building a foundation for success, he has started a basketball program at two schools, Kirtland Community College and Highland Park Community College. For over 40 years, Donahue has been involved with coaching as assistant or head coach at every level from high school to NCAA Division I programs. During that period, Donahue has amassed over 750 career wins, including a .618 winning percentage at the college level.

He comes to Marygrove after serving as the head men's basketball coach at Kirtland for seven seasons (2000-2007), where he compiled a 106-101 mark.

Donahue has received numerous awards during his career, including being inducted into the Michigan Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1991. He holds a career head coaching record of 630-388 at the collegiate level. With his 16 years of service in the high school ranks, all in the state of Michigan, Donahue has easily reached the 750 win plateau.

Donahue has a Bachelors degree in Business Education from University of Detroit and a Masters in Physical Education from Eastern Michigan University.

"Working with Coach Donahue will be a pleasure," said Sichterman. "He is so well respected in the state of Michigan for his basketball knowledge and coaching experience. I'll now be able to focus on developing our entire athletic department as we join the NAIA, add sports and explore conference membership opportunities."

"It is a great opportunity to come to Marygrove and help build a program that has grown tremendously in the last few years," said Donahue. "Coach Sichterman has done a great job and I look forward to working with him to continue the success he has established here."
