WHAT: Joel Short, co-founder and chief technology

private-equity forum on mobile computing
and data communications, participants will
hear from dozens of startups with strategies

WHO: Dr. Joel Short is the chief technology
officer and senior vice president of
Nomadix, a company he co-founded with
Internet Pioneer Dr. Leonard Kleinrock.
Dr. Short also serves as vice-chair of Wi-Fi
Alliance's Wireless ISP Roaming (WISPr)
committee and is editor and co-author of
WISPr's document on "Best Common Practices
for Wireless ISP (WISP) Roaming". He is
also the co-chairman of the Public-access
Task Group within the Wi-Fi Alliance.
Dr. Short has extensive experience in the
design and management of complex computer
network systems, having worked for various
technology start-ups and well-known
technology companies including Apple
Computer. He received his Ph.D. in
Computer Science from UCLA where he was
a lead contributor to various ARPA
sponsored wireless and mobile
research projects including TRAVLER -
Transparent Virtual Networking and WAMIS -
Wireless Adaptive Mobile Information Systems.
