WHAT: Joel Short, chief technology officer for Nomadix, the

at the Ordering and Billing Forum (OBF) in San Diego on
August 20, 2003 between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. The
speech will detail a framework for wireless ISP (WISP)
roaming and its integration into existing billing
infrastructures of wireline carriers.

Industry Solutions (ATIS), OBF is a forum of the
Carrier Liaison Committee (CLC). It provides
a forum for customers and providers in the
telecommunications industry to identify,
discuss and resolve national issues which affect
ordering, billing, provisioning and exchange of
information about access services, other
connectivity and related matters.
WHO: Dr. Joel Short is the Chief Technology Officer and Sr.
Vice President of Nomadix, a company he co-founded with
Internet Pioneer Dr. Leonard Kleinrock. Nomadix
provides embedded software and hardware solutions
that enable seamless and secure high speed Internet
access for mobile users. Dr. Short also serves as
vice-chair of WECA's Wireless ISP Roaming (WISPr)
committee and is editor and co-author of WISPr's
document on "Best Common Practices for Wireless ISP
(WISP) Roaming." Dr. Short has extensive experience
in the design and management of complex computer
network systems, having worked for various technology
start-ups and well-known technology companies
including Apple Computer. He received his
Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA where he was a lead
contributor to various ARPA sponsored wireless and
mobile research projects including TRAVLER --
Transparent Virtual Networking and WAMIS -- Wireless
Adaptive Mobile Information Systems.
