Islamic Studies Expert Available for Comment
WHO: Patrice Brodeur, Connecticut College Professor of Religious
Studies Director of the Pluralism Project and an editor for The
Muslim World, an academic journal devoted to the study of
Islam/Christian-Muslim relations
CREDENTIALS:
Brodeur was a Fellow at the Center for the Study of World
Religions at Harvard University, where he earned his Ph.D. He
studied Islam at the Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at
Georgetown U., at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the
University of Jordan.
AREA OF EXPERTISE:
Brodeur's main area of interest is the relationship between
contemporary Islam and Islamic Studies and he is currently
writing a book on contemporary Arab Muslim perspectives on
religious Others. Since the tragic terrorist attacks perpetrated
against the United States Sept. 11, 2001, he has been discussing
with his students Osama bin Laden, who some have inferred is
linked to the attacks, and the relationship between religion and
martyrdom.

at Connecticut College Author of three books:

the Gulf Crisis

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Hybel has been a critic of the former Bush administration's
decision-making process regarding international relations,
particularly with its handling of the Gulf Crisis. In Logic of
Surprise in International Conflict, Hybel addresses methods
typically employed by aggressors who are weaker than their
targets; Pearl Harbor and the Yom Kippur War of 1983 are two
examples he cites and for which he provides analyses.
