Connecticut Cookie Platoon Receives U.S. Army Award

Freedom Team Salute Acknowledges Support to Troops, Morale, Freedom

DEEP RIVER, CT--(Marketwire - January 20, 2009) - The Connecticut Cookie Platoon (CCP), which sends cookies to U.S. military personnel at home and abroad monthly, has received a U.S. Army Freedom Team Salute, comprising a Certificate of Appreciation, as well as a U.S. Army lapel pin for Debbie Schaefer, the CCP's founder. The award was accompanied by a letter from General George W. Casey, Jr., United States Army Chief of Staff, and Peter Geren, Secretary of the Army.

"This award recognizes all of the bakers, volunteers, donors, and sponsors who help us accomplish our mission," said Mrs. Schaefer. "As the Cookie Platoon has grown, we've been able to reach more and more troops and veterans with more and more cookies. It's very rewarding to know that, all over the world, our cookies provide a taste of home, a few moments of comfort, and reminders of our support and appreciation. We're grateful to the U.S. Army for recognizing our work."

The letter from General Casey says, in part: "America has always called upon the Army to do the hard jobs, and its soldiers answer the call to duty. Ours is a free Nation -- the standard-bearer of freedom for millions of less fortunate people -- because our freedoms are guaranteed by great Soldiers and the families and communities by their side."
